My Comments on This Book
This book is one of the best small books I have seen for introducing Rutherford to a non-scientific reader. The author allowed me to check over much of the New Zealand section in draft form prior to publication so it is mostly free of the usual errors by authors who use secondary sources as their reference material.

Errors Noted.
p 7 A minor point but of Rutherford's first 3 degrees the first (B.A.) didn't require research.
p 8 For the 1851 scholarship, the UNZ nominated a candidate, the 1851 committee made the award.
p 11 Rutherford was an outstanding teacher of research students, not general students.
p 15 Ern's father sailed from Scotland in 1842. He arrived in New Zealand in 1843. The journey by sailing ship took typically 5 months.
p 29 March 1890 was the start of the University year, not school year.
p 36 See reference p 8.
p 36 In 1894 Ern worked on the magnetisation of iron at high frequencies.
p 41 Ern became the second New Zealand student to win an Exhibition of 1851 Science Scholarship.
p 48 JJ invited R to join him in studying electrical conduction in gases. X-rays were just one tool Ern used.
p 49 Ern didn't continue with WT signalling at Cambridge after he had changed fields to work with JJ Thomson.
p 50 Maria Sklodowska, the student, joined Pierre Curie, the professor, in his researches on magnetism etc, and were married, before radioactivity was discovered.
