Jan 27th 1895 looked forward to February when May Newton, his landlady's daughter, was due to come to the Rutherford farm and flaxmill in Taranaki for a holiday. And in 1936 wrote to accept being Patron of the Scottish Society of Nelson, though he had never worn a kilt and doubted he ever would.
